Dic nobis Maria, quid vidisti in via? --Victimae paschali laudes

The Easter sequence is among my favorite of all chants, particularly this verse. Mary shows us how to contemplate the mystery of Christ's Resurrection from the dead and of our own redemption. Her joy becomes ours as we shout, "Alleluia! Christus Resurrexit!"

Check out this illuminating discussion on "Victimae Paschali Laudes" and its background. I learned a lot from it! Jim http://vultus.stblogs.org/2008/03/acqua_sapientiae.html#more

That was a very informative article. It makes sense that the hymn is talking about Mary Magdalene and not our Blessed Mother, but I never put that together before!

Nor did I! It is fascinating to me how the Catholic faith tradition has these nuiances that I never before understood or realized. It is truly amazing the depth of this 2000 year old tradition! J
