May 15, 2003
Since there seems to be a shortage of holidays till July 4, I'm declaring Friday, May 16 the first-ever Brattiness Intolerance Day. On this day, we celebrate the fact that it is not ok to be a brat. Inevitably, in the course of everyday life we come in contact with brats, be they our siblings, our friends and acquaintances, or even ourselves. Brattiness Intolerance Day is the perfect time to stop smiling indulgently at whiny kids, related to you or not. Change your smile into a disapproving frown--or a menacing scowl. If you have jurisdiction over the young brat, punish his or her spoiled behavior with your preferred disciplinary measure (time-out, spanking, starvation, etc.) If the brat is a grown-up brat, feel free to inform him or her how full of crap you think he or she is (in a nice way, of course). The idea is to stamp out all bratty attitudes whatsoever. This means being tough on yourself too, if you are the brat closest at hand. Quit whining, you baby! Think of others fist, instead of your spoiled self. With starving kids in Africa, wars, famine, terrorism, domestic violence...does it really matter if you don't get exactly what you would like? Stop complaining! Others in the world have it a lot harder and work a lot harder than you, and spewing brattiness is a waste of perfectly good First Amendment rights! Feel free to use any or all of the above tirade on the brats in your life. Together, we will rid the world of brattiness, for one day at least.
