In response to Mike's blog, I find it very alarming how terribly far society's attitudes toward sex are from what they should be. Even through history, purity and chastity had not had the widespread adherence one would expect from Christian civilization. Why is this? One can blame it on the fall of man, as is customary, but I believe that a big problem is man's tendency to treat women as second-class persons to be used as objects of pleasure. Either women must play along with this, or they must bear all the burden of sexual morality on their shoulders. Yet, it's interesting to think that if all men were chaste, all women would be chaste too (at least in theory), as well as vice versa. Nowadays, the emphasis is on individuality, and we see ourselves as only responsible to ourselves for our actions. In reality, however, we are obligated to be models of virtue for all our human family. One person's sin does not just injure his relationship with God, but also lowers the moral quality of life for the rest of his fellow men.
