Today's quote from Mary, Mystery of Mercy:

Abandonment means stability for us. When we disregard abandonment, even in the slightest way, we begin to experience anxiety. Abandonment is the only true way to overcome anxiety. That is why Jesus asks it of us in a particular way. He knows that anxiety is one of the evils of our time. We are all tense and stressed. The only way to eliminate anxiety from our lives is to live in abandonment more and more.

I don't know what to think of this quote. If we feel abandoned, we are like the lost sheep. Jesus is who we are to run to; he doesn't abandon us. And God is love; if we are abandoned, we do not feel loved.

I suppose that is what comes of taking quotes out of context! In the book, Fr. Philippe is speaking of abandonment in the sense of Mary abandoning every thought, wish, desire of her own to God's will; she lived in perfect abandonment, not in that she was abandoned by the Father, but in that she abandoned all else to be His.

Ah, yes. In that context, I understand its meaning!
